VOLUNTEER AT VIRTUAL ROCK CAMP!
THE APPLICATION IS CLOSED
Rock Camp is a Do-It-Together project that requires many hands to make light work! There are so many ways to help out. Some of our volunteer positions require musical knowledge, but many do not.
NO MUSIC EXPERIENCE NECESSARY (8-10 Camp Counselors)
In this position you will serve as a mentor for your assigned band(s) of girls and make sure they are where they need to be at all times. Camp Counselors with musical experience may also coach campers on their instruments throughout the day and during band practice.
MUSIC EXPERIENCE NECESSARY (8 instructors, 2 per instrument)
Want to teach a musical instrument to youth with varying ability? Music instruction will take the form of group lessons, which will be divided by age group (age 8 to 11, and 12-15). The musical experience of our campers will vary greatly. Some may have previous music experience whereas others may have never even touched an instrument. You may meet or email with your fellow instrument instructors before orientation to decide on a curriculum, and what style/ level of experience each instructor is comfortable teaching. This position combines well with band coach or workshop leader for a full day of volunteering! Otherwise this may be a part-time position. Part-time instructors will however need to be available to teach each day. We are looking for instructors for bass, drums, guitar, keyboard and a choir director.
SONGWRITING KNOWLEDGE RECOMMENDED (8-10 Band Coaches)
Band coaches help campers during band selection on the first day and assist them each day during band practice. You will help them learn how to play as a group (both musically and interpersonally), as well as help them to prepare a song for the showcase. You are welcome to make this a full time position by partnering with the Camp Counselor. Band coaches, although part-time, must be available each day.
NO MUSIC EXPERIENCE NECESSARY (15-20 workshops and leaders)
Each of our workshops values the encouragement of creativity, self-expression, and awareness of our campers. Workshops will be loosely divided by age, and may be taught twice throughout the day. This is a great supplement position for instrument instructors whom would like to stay at camp through the day. Some workshop examples may be: zine writing and production, history of womxn in music, songwriting, sound recording, body image and identity, media literacy, and anti-oppression.
MUSIC EXPERIENCE NECESSARY (5-10 bands/performers)
Perform at lunchtime for our campers! Give campers the real concert experience. Sets are 30 min with time for a brief Q&A. All musical genres welcome to perform!
This program is supported, in part, by a grant from the Washington State Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts.
